Balancing Life in a World of Chaos
With back to school coming up for many people, sometimes it can feel as if the chaos of life comes full-force to hit you in the face.
How do you balance it all? How do you make time for friends and family when your to-do list is piling up to the ceiling?
Balance is important because it works to eliminate chaos, allows us to have more peace, stronger connections with people, and overall holistic health. It is difficult to find balance, but there are simple ways to make juggling everything easier.
According to the Olga Phoenix Project’s Self-Care Wheel, there are 6 categories of life: physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, personal, and professional. Becoming aware of these categories can help you reflect on how you are balancing your life. Maybe you’ve found yourself investing more in certain categories compared to others. It can be easy for your professional life to take up the whole day, leaving only a small amount of time to pour into yourself physically or emotionally.
Here are some questions you can ask yourself to make sure you are doing at least one thing a day to pour into each of these domains:
Physical
Have I moved my body today?
Did I eat foods that nourished my body today?
Psychological
What am I grateful for?
Have I reached out to someone and asked for help?
Emotional
Did I try to hold in my tears today?
What’s something I love about myself?
Spiritual
Have I spent time with a spiritual mentor lately?
Is there something I can invest in that aligns with my values?
Personal
Have I checked in with my family recently?
What have I done to fill my own cup today?
Professional
Did I give myself enough time to get ready before work?
Have I taken the time to think about the purpose behind what I’m doing?
If you are still in need of more ideas after reflecting on these questions, the Self-Care Wheel has many more suggestions for how to invest in these categories and better balance your life. Click the link and maybe choose just one simple thing that you can start doing today!
