10 Songs to Listen to During Mental Wellness Month

Music is good for the soul.

According to Harvard Health, music benefits our emotional well-being and cognition. Music engages our brain by activating almost all of its parts, strengthening healthy neural pathways, and boosting our happiness. Without music, life would be more dull, boring, and sad.

Music is powerful, and we can let it speak life over us if we are intentional about the songs we choose to play. As we observe January’s Mental Wellness Month, it is a reminder to prioritize our mental well-being and take time for self-care. In honor of this, let’s challenge ourselves to listen to music that spreads awareness about mental health and lifts our spirits.

Here are 10 song suggestions to listen to this Mental Wellness Month.

Anxious by Sarah Reeves

This song poetically illustrates what life can be like trying to live with anxiety and negative thoughts. The author confesses her anxiety and her desire to have freedom and “come out of hiding.” It is a song many can relate to, and it may help you feel less alone.

You Will Be Found by Sam Smith and Summer Walker

This song is on the soundtrack of the famous movie Dear Evan Hansen. It is a relatable song for those who might feel alone and is about being found in the midst of that loneliness.

This song gives light to the possible inner dialogue of someone’s thoughts when they are feeling anxious. It reminds listeners who believe in God that He is the Prince of Peace and He is the one holding their hearts.

Human by Christina Perry

This is a song for all the perfectionists out there. It is a reminder that it is okay to fail. We all make mistakes, but that is what makes us all human. It is also a reminder of how strong people are, and that we can “do it” and “get through it.”

You Say by Lauren Daigle

You’re Gonna Be Ok by Brian & Jenn Johnson

This song is about the fight to keep pressing forward even when you want to give up. It gives people hope for the light at the end of the tunnel and reminds us that we were made to press through and not give up.

Soaking in His Presence by William Augusto

Sometimes words can be too much and we just want something calm and relaxing to fill our minds. William Augusto’s instrumentals can do just that. Playing this music in the background while cooking, cleaning, or driving can calm the soul.
